Wireless Construction Committee Update

CI’s Wireless Construction Committee is housed in the Construction Directorate. The committee exists to further the development and knowledge of Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) technology on construction sites.

The Wireless Construction Committee recently met in League City, Texas. The committee members discussed the responses to a survey on wireless technology that they have been circulating to construction managers in the United States and abroad. The results of the survey will be used to gauge and compare how prevalent the use of wireless technology is within the construction industries. Additional queries are designed to assess the perceived opportunities as well as the barriers to the implementation of Wi-Fi on construction sites. The committee also has plans develop a manuscript on wireless technology in construction. In addition, the committee has plans to organize workshops in different metropolitan areas for construction professionals where vendors would exhibit and demonstrate products.

If you are interested in receiving a short report on the first survey results or in becoming a member of the Wireless Construction Committee, please contact Tracie Smith at tjsmith@asce.org or 703-295-6205.
