The Owners Directorate of the ASCE Construction Institute is conducting a survey to gather information from its members for use in developing activities that best meet your needs and desires. Dr. Edward Minchin is incoming Chair of the Directorate’s Committee on Construction Quality and Inspection and an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Florida. Dr. Minchin is leading a team that is conducting this survey of construction owners, which is aimed at discovering how construction owners conduct business in the increasingly global working environment of the 21st century.
To date, over 100 owners have been contacted and over 60 have responded. The owners contacted have been overwhelmingly positive about filling out the short survey. Those participating have testified that it takes less than 15 minutes to complete the survey, which asks owners how their organization meets certain challenges and handles certain everyday functions in the construction process. Areas covered in the survey include project control, delivery systems, frequency of occurrence and magnitude of difficulty presented by different problem areas, who handles certain responsibilities in one of their projects, use of consultants, quality control/quality assurance, and other issues.
To assure that the survey has the maximum credibility possible, a large quantity of owners are sought to participate in the survey. Any owner that would agree to participate can get in touch with Dr. Minchin at (352) 392-9537, x-1488 or by email at minch@ufl.edu.
