Powers Receives 2007 Roebling Award

J. Patrick Powers, P.E., F.ASCE was chosen to receive the 2007 Roebling Award for his contributions to civil engineering and to the construction profession over the course of his 40 year career.  Mr. Powers received his Bachelor of Science from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.  He went on to work for companies such as Moretrench American Corporation and Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, where he is a consultant at present.  His specialty is groundwater engineering and he has been involved in projects such as subways, dams and locks, dry docks, bridges, mines, industrial plants, and subaqueous tunnels, among others.  Mr. Powers has also served as a specialist in the arbitration of groundwater disputes.  He provided analyses, reports, depositions, and trial testimony for the adjudication process.  Mr. Powers has also published articles and presented at conferences on various aspects of groundwater engineering.  He is a member of the Construction Institute’s Underground Technology Research Council and The Moles.  Please join us in congratulating Mr. Powers on his outstanding contributions to civil engineering and the construction industry. 

The Roebling Award was established in 1987 to honor the memory of John Roebling, National Roebling, and Emily Roebling, three individuals who made significant contributions to the construction field.  The award is presented every two years and is chosen by the Awards Committee of the Construction Institute Board of Directors.  For more information on the Roebling Award, please visit the award page

Sponsored by the History and Heritage Committee and the New Jersey and Metropolitan Sections of ASCE, this event is in celebration of the 200th anniversary of John A. Roebling’s birth. The Symposium will be held at the Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge on October 27th and the tours of sites in New Jersey and New York will be held on October 28th and 29th.
