Ciro De Falco, Executive Vice President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will provide the opening remarks at the opening plenary session of the Pan American Convention of Engineers/Union Pan Americana de Asociaciones de Ingenieria (UPADI) in Atlanta, GA. Georgia Institute of Technology is hosting UPADI 2006 during September 19-22, 2006.
Mr. De Falco's role within IDB, which is a source of financing for development, trade and regional integration programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, is to supervise bank operations. He has also served as Manager of the Regional Operations Department for the Andean and English Speaking Caribbean and as Manager of the Plan and Programs Department for IDB. Mr. De Falco also previously worked for the U.S. Treasury Department, as an economist and then as Director of the Office of Developing Nations Finance.
This year’s UPADI conference theme is “Building a Sustainable Infrastructure: Education, Technology Innovation, and Economic Development.” The conference program includes a number of presentations that center on the theme, including plenary sessions led by Raquel Alfaro, Fund for Fostering Scientific and Technological Research; Carlos Braga, senior advisor, International Trade Department, The World Bank; and Alberto Alemán Zubieta, chief executive officer, Panama Canal Authority. The UPADI conference is a bilingual event.
